Feb. 10 NV Legislature Update |
|
Tuesday, 10 February 2009 00:00 |
There are bills scheduled this week and next, here is the run down and the committee members and their contact information. Don't forget how powerful your voice is! Some of these are just BDR's to bills, if there is no note on a hearing it means it has not been scheduled.
SB-18 (Senator Washington) has been RESCHEDULED to Thursday, Feb 19th at 8:00 a.m. in the Senate Energy, Infrastructure and Transportation committee. This bill seeks to define "when children are present" for school zones, it also has provisions for raising speed limits in some school zones; middle schools would have speed limits raised from 15 to 20 MPH and high school zones would increase from 15 to 25 MPH. Each could be raised an additional 5 MPH at law enforcement discretion.
SB-33 (BDR43-399) By Judiciary:Transfers oversight for probation on those successfully completing the serious offender program to parole and probation from the courts.
SB-100 (Judiciary) Tuesday, February 17th at 8:30 a.m. in the Senate Judiciary: Provides that license revocation for a DUI or drugs be based on the total number of violations in a seven year period and not treated as "subsequent" for violations over third offense.
SB-116 (Senate E,I &T) Thursday, February 19th at 8:00 a.m. in the Senate Energy, Infrastructure and Transportation committee: this is the Primary Seat Belt bill which upgrades our current bill to standard enforcement, meaning those unbelted in a vehicle can be stopped for not buckling up. If you need more information please log on to the NV Seat Belt Coalition site at www.buckleupnevada.org. We urge you all to speak up on this bill, and all your friends and family.
AB-2 (Carpenter) Monday, February 16th, at 8:30 a.m. in the Assembly Judiciary committee: Requires NHP personnel to be trained in the proper installation of child safety seats. As written the NV Child Passenger Safety Task Force feels that this bill has too great a fiscal note they are offering a compromise to the bill with assistance from NV Office of Traffic Safety.
AB-47 (Corrections, Parole and Probation, BDR 14-409) Monday, February 16th, at 8:30 a.m. in the Assembly Judiciary committee: This bill, if passed, would allow the court to seal records of some offenders if they successfully complete a drug and alcohol abuse program. Another provision expands the serious offender program guidelines to allow more offenders to participate in the program.
